I hope I did this right. :x
Title: The Thief and the Ninja
Pairing: Suoh/Akira
Spoilers: Small spoilers for both anime and manga; I don’t think there’s anything major here.

Brief background: Clamp Campus Detectives is about a trio of school boys that form the elementary division student council. At the request of the president, they form a detective agency to ‘help women everywhere’, which they run in their spare time. Nokoru Imonoyama, the president in question, is a little zany and will do anything to get out of doing his student council paperwork. The three reappear as adults in the manga X/99.
The Ninja: Suoh Takamura is the secretary for the student council and also Nokoru’s bodyguard. He has the hardest job in the world, seeing as how Nokoru is generally not very cooperative. He comes from a long line of ninjas; many people would give large piles of money to have a Takamura as their bodyguard – it’s too bad these ninjas aren’t for sale. Suoh chose Nokoru as his charge after a kidnapping when he was a second-grader.
As a ninja, it would be expected that Suoh would be very athletic. The anime shows him excelling in softball, horseback riding, archery, and kicking ass and taking names, to list a few. Presumably he is at least somewhat skilled in all areas of athletics. It’s also said Suoh he likes literature; this isn’t really developed much in the manga and for some reason it rarely shows up in fanfiction. I’d expect it to be a popular plot device, but surprisingly not.
Personality-wise, Suoh is somewhat on the quiet side and is a bit uptight at times. He believes in work before play and is always struggling to get Nokoru to do his paperwork. As befits a bodyguard, he is devoted and deathly loyal. He’s somewhat traditional- his relationship with Nokoru is quite similar to that of a samurai and his master. He lives in a very traditional home. He only uses throwing knives and as far as we know doesn’t own a gun, though this may connect to his tendency to pin villains down rather than doing them any real harm.
In relationships he’s tremendously shy; in the series he has sort of a puppy-love girlfriend the way elementary schoolers tend to sometimes. All it takes is a smile from her to get him to blush and if he accidentally touches her he’ll be apologizing for a week. He also wasn’t quite sure what to make of Nokoru at first, seeming to express a mixed fascination and annoyance with the blonde early on.
The Thief: Akira Ijyuin, the treasurer, can only be classified as “the most adorable thing to ever walk the face of the earth.” He’s incredibly sweet, naïve, and shy (he still believes in Santa Claus at ten). He’s a year younger than Suoh and two younger than Nokoru and has great respect bordering on hero worship for both of them.
Akira was raised by his two “mothers”, who seem to get younger as time goes on, both in appearance and maturity. The two are twin sisters who married the same man (presumably not legally, but you know). No one knows which of the two gave birth to him, nor do we know their names- they’re just referred to as “Moms A and B”. While they seem to genuinely care about Akira, they don’t seem to have the first clue of how to treat a kid (hint: don’t treat him like a servant). He does all of the cooking and a lot of the cleaning as well. Luckily, cooking is in his blood- both his father and uncle are excellent cooks.
Akira’s father was the original “20 Masks”, a legendary gentleman thief. Akira has now taken on the position and goes to steal things for his mothers ranging from a curtain to an ice sculpture. Akira's father is also the reason he believes in Santa - his father only shows up once a year, dressed as Santa. It's never explained why this is.
I’m really kind of surprised the kid doesn’t need counseling yet.
The Pairing: Suoh and Akira seem to have an unspoken Coalition for dealing with Nokoru. They occasionally whisper back and forth to each other in “what is he doing now?” voices. They are brought together by the common interest of looking after Nokoru. It’s a full-time job that requires a lot of cooperation from the two, and they seem to be to the point where they work together almost flawlessly. Their relationship is truly one between equals.
Suoh has never struck me as a very touchy feely person; however he seems to have no problems with letting Akira hang all over him and even occasionally touches back.
Akira would probably also be very good for Suoh; I can see Suoh feeling as though he’s able to actually relax around him.
One of the biggest arguments against the pairing is Akira’s second identity as 20 Masks. It seems likely that given Suoh’s disposition, he wouldn’t be really crazy about Akira’s “night job”. He might not be; it’s difficult to say. However, I personally believe that Nokoru is aware of Akira’s second identity, in which case Suoh probably is as well. He also doesn’t seem to have strong feelings about 20 Masks either way when he comes up in episodes 11-12 of the TV series. He does, however, help Nokoru clear 20 Masks’ name of a crime he did not commit.
The “Other Women”: Canonically, Suoh and Akira both have “girlfriends”; quite frankly this is creepy since both girls are in kindergarten (and I try to age the boys at least five years before I do anything with even them, so…yeah. Creepy.) Admittedly I remember having crushes at that age, but they were definitely not serious- they were just puppy love. Akira marries his girlfriend in the 20 Masks manga, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to grow apart as young couples tend to do. After all, people go through many changes up through college that can affect couples greatly.
Recommended Reading: There is none; terribly sorry. The only Suoh/Akira fic I’m aware of other than my own is very very bad.
However, I did bribe
praiseofshadows into writing a drabble that came out adorably. Sad to say that’s all you’re getting.

Date: 2005-05-07 07:07 pm (UTC)screwing like rabid weaselserrr... dating... in an RP I'm in (Nokoru was dating a character from another series, leaving out that possibility). Then I fell in love with the pairing...I'm not sure why the link's not working for you o.o It worked for me, I just tried it. But here's a link to the main post: http://www.livejournal.com/users/praiseofshadows/46474.html
Hopefully that'll work O.o The drabble should be fairly findable, it says Suoh/Akira in the subject line.
