Rumours of the deaths of the moderators here at
ship_manifesto have been greatly somewhat exaggerated. At least one of us still breathes, occasionally - we usually take it in turns. ;) Meatlife had been soul-sucking for both of us in recent months, but hopefully that will soon change... for the better!
We do apologise for the lack of attention this comm has recently received, and to show our appreciation of everyone who's still hanging around waiting for us to do something, we're going to let you do something. :D
Short on time, but still want to sing the praises of your favorite OTP/OT3/OT4? Step right up! Be creative! There are absolutely no rules, other than respecting each other, behaving in an adult manner, and using an lj-cut.
You can write as much or as little as you want to, add screencaps or not, quote scenes that make you squee. It really is up to you. A post here is basically saying "This is why I love x/y and why you should too." How about the top twenty reasons why 'blank' deserves better, but you still can't help shipping them together? Maybe there's not much - or any! - actual canon for your crazy crossover pairing, but you want to tell everyone why Faith Lehane(Buffy)/Dean Winchester(Supernatural) is the best pairing ever? This is the time and the place to do it.
"Free Month" runs for the rest of the month of May and all of June! Someone should be around to approve posts on a daily basis, to prevent any possible flist logjams. *g*
Anyone who has already commented on the sign-up list is free to post their manifesto as and when they are ready, up to the end of June. If anyone requires longer than that, please let me know at the signup post, and you will be assigned a suitable date.
Let the festivities commence! :D

Date: 2011-05-09 02:32 pm (UTC)The last time I made a post to a moderated community, I screwed up the HTML royally. And since you can't edit posts that have been submitted for approval, I was stuck waiting for it to go up. The moderator took two weeks to approve my post, and -- since you don't get notified, short of manually keeping an eye on the community -- I didn't even notice it had gone up until the day after. It was just a really shitty experience, and put me off moderated communities entirely.
Just a thought, of course. But it'd be a good way to keep this place alive -- especially since you say you're both busy with RL and sometimes unable to approve posts regularly.

Date: 2011-05-09 03:43 pm (UTC)One of the main reasons for the moderation is so we can catch broken HTML and lj-cuts, etcetera. Manifestos can be quite long and image-heavy, with embedded vids and the potential for some NSFW imagery, which is not something we want to see splashed across a thousand flists if we can help it.
Unfortunately, that sometimes means a delay in dealing with the moderation queue, but we still feel that that is preferable to potentially scarring someone for life with unexpected X-rated artwork of their childhood idol in a compromising position with their #1 mortal enemy. (And yes, that has happened. MSWord's hidden html sucks and is apparently capable of breaking an lj-cut... partway through an otherwise properly cut post. *boggles*)

Date: 2011-05-09 07:34 pm (UTC)In any case, sorry to hear that you're so set in your stance (I was going to suggest polling the community if you were uncertain, but I guess there's no point to that now). I personally don't see why someone would be a member in the first place if they're so sensitive and prone to being "scarred for life" -- but hey, again, that's just my opinion. I thought the community originally switched to moderated posting due to spam issues, though?

Date: 2011-05-10 06:26 am (UTC)It wasn't always moderated? That must have been before my time, I'm afraid. Creator!Mod recruited me a few years ago, and the discussion on what to look for while handling the moderation queue was more focussed on broken/missing code than spam identification. (Quite understandable, I suppose, as most spam tends to scream its existence from the rooftops, whilst broken/missing code can be trickier to spot.)
Sadly, spam is also still a consideration. Each time I identify a new spam journal (usually when a piece of spam turns up in one or more of my comms), I use the command console to ban_set it from every journal I can, but it's a never-ending battle. :/
(I wouldn't feel right about taking the comm off moderated posting anyway, not without the agreement of Creator!mod, who is currently out of touch.)

Date: 2011-05-10 05:58 am (UTC)Perhaps you could let people in your fandom know that you've posted a manifesto? I see from your profile that you're a member of
(NB: At the end of Free Month, a mod post will be created linking to all of the Free Month posts, so that will give watchers a second chance to view any they missed first time round.)
