The choice between John/Cameron and Jack/Ianto? Ouch.

How did I miss Prussia/Hungary the first time around? O_o Nonetheless, I voted for Inuyasha/Kagome because Prussia/Hungary's not high up on my list of Hetalia OTPs.

Also, go Dee/Ryo and Dumbledore/Grindelwald! *waves flag for canon BL ships*

non-abusive, caring, supportive, non-stereotype pairing at that! ::needs to make a Fake icon::

Hell yes! FAKE's got one of the most well-developed, if not the most well-developed, BL pairings around.

A pic of them, just because I can:

...Okay, that does look a little stereotypical. Here's another one:

Dee and Ryo hanging out with Carol and Bikky, who are practically their adopted kids and are awesome too in their own way.

"one of the most well-developed, if not the most well-developed, BL pairings around."

Certainly the best I"VE seen! Both characters are strong, have personalities, flaws and strengths. And no rape! A miracle! And they actually function like a good family. Plus there's nice drama and suspense to support the plot. I really need to buy the second series. And I'll probably be going and rereading the first 7 volumes tonight.
Biky and Carol are another pair I adore (good lord Biky grew up to be a hottie)

Word! Gravitation may be more well-known (and it was in fact my introduction to BL, so I still have a soft spot for Yuki/Shuichi, even if the manga kind of went off the rails after Vol. 7), but FAKE trumps it in plot and character development. It makes me sad that it isn't more popular and even sadder that I've been unable to find another good, long (i.e. more than 1 or 2 volumes) BL manga that really makes you believe that the characters are truly in love and can spend the rest of their lives together instead of just chucking them into bed right off the bat.

I should buy the second series too; I've always been curious to see how the J.J./Drake hook-up plays out.

"I should buy the second series too; I've always been curious to see how the J.J./Drake hook-up plays out."

Not to mention more wonderfully horrible shoes!
It's lack of popularity may be because of lack of smut?
A lot of fans prefer flash over substance and this is a series that's more series where the couple just happens to be gay then OMGHOTMESEXING! with a touch of plot.

And the art style is a bit older too. Interestingly one of the few BL series that I know of drawn by a male. Oh man, little old wrinkly couple Dee and Ryo. Sitting on a park bench, Ryo feeding pigeons and Dee yelling at young "whipper snappers". XD

Other longer series I personally like include Love Mode. It focuses on several different couples. Some are just flashes in the pan and others have that life long feel to them (in my opinion anyway)

Date: 2009-09-02 05:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] infiniteowl.livejournal.com
Lack of smut? The sex scene in Vol. 7 was more explicit than what Gravitation ever gave us! Not to mention that Dee kissed and groped Ryo quite a few times before that. I think it's more to do with Gravitation getting a 13-episode anime and FAKE getting only one OVA. :| Plus, FAKE seems to be aimed at a slightly older audience, so Gravitation would be the one more appealing to teenage fangirls.

I'll check out Love Mode; the first couple shown didn't really do anything for me, but I'll see if I like the other couples that show up.

Date: 2009-09-02 05:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] demondreams.livejournal.com
Yes there was groping and kissing but you had to wait 7 volumes for real smut.
And it was aimed at a bit more mature audience, I think you're right. The anime helped a ton for Gravitation too I'm sure. Oh man you want to talk about EXPLICIT you should see the Gravitation Remixes that the author did. DJ"s of her own series? Brilliant!

Love Mode is interesting in that it has all SORTS of couples. The first one is actually my least favorite. Now the Doctor and his partner <3

May I introduce you to Koori no Mamono no Monogatari (http://www.unblessed.net/SiH/manga.php?t=110)? Hits every requirement, and the translation and plot get way better after the first volume, I swear. The Egoist chapters of Junjo Romantica are also quite nice.

Same. Hetalia is my main fandom, but my vote here definitely went to KagomexInuyasha. Hands down. I'm crossing my fingers for it to advance! *waves flag*

I was really excited to see Albus/Gellert advance to round two.

I'm still trying to figure out how Prussia/Hungary made it on the list of pairings. Not that I have anything against that pairing...but why not Germany/Italy? Or Poland/Lithuania? Or even Austria/Hungary?

Ah well, I do like Inuyasha/Kagome a lot, even if the manga kept on dragging out the conflict with Naraku. (You were in the Inuyasha fandom for quite a long time, right?)

Date: 2009-09-02 04:29 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] haro.livejournal.com
Yeah I'm really shocked Germany/Italy didn't make it (and a little sad too). But I guess when they did the original survey, no one listed them.

Aha yeah she really did drag it out, but I'll always love the pairing a lot despite the... flaws of the manga. *laugh* And yes, I was in the Inuyasha fandom for a very long time.

Meanwhile: GO ISHIDA AND ORIHIME, MY SWEET OTP OF ALL TIME! <3 (Dorkalicious love for the win! In my crossover fantasies Yomiko and Ishida would have little myopic babies!)

Nice to see the [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto polls back up. I was going to be sad if sock puppeteers had ruined the fun for everyone.

Dude yes! Uryuu/Orihime! And then Renji/Rukia/Ichigo (not too fond of Rukia, but it fits, I guess). But, alas, no matter how much I fight against Tifa (psh, Zack is the One for Cloud, obvs), Cloud/Tifa is so canon, I'm fighting a losing battle :[
