Title: My Analysis and Evidence on How Canon/Gay/Married Shishido and Ohtori Are
Author: Me!
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: Shishido Ryou x Ohtori Choutarou
Notes: Whoa. Okay, I started out, just wanting to post up a bunch of Silver Pair bromides, and point out how married they were, but then I was like... Let's include some stuff from the anime/manga, too!

2 hours later, I've finished the anime/manga analysis, and this thing has gone in a totally different direction than I initially intended! O.O

Anyways, it's now become an essay/evidence collection on the Silver Pair as they've developed throughout the story, along with some very fanservicey bromides/cards/shtuff thrown on at the very end xD

So, I suppose this is one of those things that you call a "Ship Analysis" or something? Basically, it's an essay/picture post that you read, and then you're supposed to convert to my OTP :D And then you write fanfiction.

Oh yeah, WARNING: IMAGE-HEAVY

Without further ado, I present...

Silver Pair Analysis/Evidence:

Let's start with some of the basics, and work from there.

ANIME/MANGA:

1.) Implied:
They're a doubles pair, and a damn good one at that. They've been together far less than the Golden Pair, and they can still kick ass? When they were facing Kaidou and Inui, even Kikumaru and Oishi said "They're a real doubles pair- like us". Yeah, I think they're naturally compatible with each other.

2.) "Choutarou"
Does Shishido call anyone else by their first name? No. It's "Atobe" and "Mukahi" and "Oshitari" and "Hiyoshi", and so on. But it's not "Ohtori", it's "Choutarou". Doesn't that mean that Shishido feels more comfortable around Ohtori, and thus, feels closer to him?

Sorry-sorry.  That's a mistake. Shishido does call other people by their first names xD Does Shishido call anyone else by their first name? No. It's "Atobe" and "Mukahi" and "Oshitari" and "Hiyoshi", and so on. But it's not "Ohtori", it's "Choutarou". Doesn't that mean that Shishido feels more comfortable around Ohtori, and thus, feels closer to him?

3.) Shishido and Ohtori's Special Training + Ohtori's Sacrifice
Quoted, cited, used and worn down almost 1000 times, Shishido went to Ohtori when he was in deep shit. Ohtori fired 200 km/hr serves at his body, night after night (Doesn't that boy have schoolwork?). When Shishido still wasn't let onto the team, Ohtori tried to give up his spot. Ohtori made such an effort to help Shishido, even sacrificing himself.

You know, despite what the anime pictures Ohtori as, the manga seems to suggest that Ohtori is actually a rather distantly polite, and stand-offish boy. I can't cite a source, but Databook 20.5 seems to say that he's rather cold (?) around people he doesn't care about.

So, if someone cold and distant bothers to sacrifice his nights, his effort and his position on the team, just for Shishido, doesn't that mean that Shishido definitely means something special to him? At least, in the way that he's not like everyone else that Ohtori doesn't give a damn about?

4.) Ohtori's Serve Training + Shishido's Help
Quoted, cited, used and worn down almost 1000 times as well, Shishido helped Ohtori perfect his serve. Shishido spent a whole night (Why don't they work in the day?), in an abandoned concrete building, just to help Ohtori. A serve is something that you can perfect alone, (very frustrating, though), but Shishido goes and sets up the rock (with the perfectly drilled hole), and everything.
He wants Ohtori to know that as his partner and friend, he's there for him, and is always ready to help.

And the best thing about this episode? "Brand New Days" was playing in the background xDDD

Is that not effort? And care for someone else? Although it's possible that Shishido only cares about their tennis, but I like to think of it that Shishido cares about Ohtori as well, tries to make the training easier and supports him the best he can.

5.) Hyotei/Seigaku Training Camp: Ohtori vs. Kawamura
Not only was this the lovely episode that showed Ohtori and Shishido's serve training, but this was also the episode that truly showed how much Choutarou meant to Shishido.
Throughout the match, as Ohtori became less and less confident, Shishido was on the sidelines, shouting support and advice. He was like Ohtori's one-man cheerleading squad/worried parent :D. At one point when Ohtori was in shock, he yelled "What are you doing? MOVE, Choutarou!", helping Choutarou get his act back together.
And when Ohtori had to block his face with his racket from a return from Kawamura, Shishido literally yelled "CHOUTAROU!", like in all those movies when the girl falls down the ravine into the depths, and the guy is like... "NOoooOOooOO!" xD

I'll just let the screenies speak for themselves.

6.) Golden Pair vs. Silver Pair
Possibly one of the greatest chapters/episodes of all time :P (lol) What can I say?
It was great. Wonderful.

The match began first by showing how Shishido had so much confidence in Ohtori's serve when they lost the first game, and placed all his trust in Ohtori.

"Forget it Choutarou, we lost this game. But your serve will take it back." (imperfect translation?) -Shishido

And then when Eiji and Oishi realized how much faster Ohtori's Scud Serve was, it wasn't Ohtori doing the talking. It was Shishido bragging about Ohtori's serve, saying, "Of course, it's much faster now. It's the new scud serve!"
The way he was talking about it, you would have thought it was -his- serve. And I think that's how he feels about it. Shishido has worked on Ohtori's Scud Serve with him, and has been there for him all along. He places as much trust in Ohtori's serve has Ohtori does. He views it as -their- serve.

The Pile Mirage formation was also done so perfectly... ^_^ There's no way you can do such a dangerous (what if the person in front hit the person in the back with his racket?), and difficult formation without SO much practice, work and definitely, tons of trust. Moving in synchronization like that, being able to predict each other so perfectly... It's practically Synchro, except that it's a conscious Synchro. Think about how much work much have gone into that? How perfectly they have to be able to know and read each other to pull that off?

Whoa, lotsa screens. But the main point of this entire episode, from Ohtori (and Shishido's) Scud Serve, to their New Australian formation (I swear the artists must have been -giggling- when they drew that xD), to their Pile Mirage, is that they are One. They think together, train together and move together. They're best friends, training partners, tennis partners, and perhaps (perhaps.) even more.

They are One.

Overall Summary
You know, really to be honest, when Ohtori first started his nightly training with Shishido, he didn't seem all that close to him. He called him "Shishido-sempai" back then, and Shishido even told him to shut up when he was complaining about their practice.

Despite what fanfiction has written, Ohtori didn't seem all -that- happy to be there, (although he -was- there, so that counts for something), and when Shishido was hit by the ball, he was sorta like... "Uh... Yeah... Can I leave now?". Even in their first match against Kaidou and Inui, Ohtori still refered to Shishido as "Shishido-sempai" and they didn't seem to be -really- close.

But as the story progresses, from Ohtori's serve training, to the Kawamura vs. Ohtori match, to the Senbatsu arc, and finally ending at the Gold vs Silver match, you can -really- see their relationship just bloom right before your eyes.

Along the way, Ohtori started referring to Shishido as just "Shishido-san", and he really became more and more open towards Shishido, and began to freely give him those 50,000 watt smiles that was sure to send Shishido reeling from the brightness xD

Looking back on this, I can't say that the anime totally ignored what Databook 20.5 said. Ohtori did seem rather standoff-ish in the beginning. He was passive, his face was neutral, he was polite, but unconcerned. But as he developed, he changed his personality, and his relationship with Shishido improved. This is something that I think the manga didn't elaborate enough on, and the anime did.

This also shows just how much characterization and character development goes into Prince of Tennis. Ohtori and Shishido aren't the main characters, but the development of their partnership is so obvious and detailed, that you almost feel like they're main characters too :P

From this:

To This:

So to sum it up.

As a viewer and a die-hard fan, it's incredibly touching for me to watch them grow together and grow on each other. They started out as just training partners, but from there, they've become so much more.

They're more open, more trusting, closer, stronger, faster, tougher and more gay than ever!

Bromide/Card Evidence:

Well, we've seen most of them, but I've just decided to gather them together :P

First off, let's begin by saying- There have only been TWO cards when Ohtori and Shishido are split up with other people. (One was Atobe/Shishido, and the other was Shishido/Kaidou (which is a rivalry, I suppose?))

They're ALWAYS together, and there's almost ALWAYS a Silver Pair card in every card release. Why? Because they're awesome, and I think that Konomi and Konami secretly like them together.

Lol, okay, maybe they just want fanservice money, but still, I think they're pretty much canon.

Yes, I know, I'm not supposed to say that, because it's immature and silly, and everyone says that "No one is really canon, because this is an animanga about MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS playing Tennis", but really...

There's like NO fricking way you can draw/print/design this stuff without realizing how... suggestive these pictures are.

NORMAL middle school boys do not place their hands under each others' legs, slump against each other, and aim for as much body contact as possible. They also do not stare at each other in love-struck ways, or admire each others' asses.

Seriously, if I saw -real- people acting like this, I'd think they were gay too. :P

Anyways, enough chatter. Let's go!

WHOA. Overload.

Okay, I hope you get my point now. They're pretty damn canon. O.o

A final gift before I leave. I have collected over 400 different piece of Silver Pair art from all over the place, and.. I put it all in one zip :P So here you go:

Damn this took a while. Okay. Well... Have fun, and love Silver Pair! <3

Okay, I've never watched PoT. I want to but I have yet to get my hands on that one. But when I saw those screenshots, even without having watched the series, my inner fangirl is squeeing. And that picture where the Silver Pair are staring at each other and touching champagne glasses, and everyone was around them, my first thought was 'did they just get married or something?'.

Lovely manifesto. Quicky and clean and simple. Those pictures were all you needed to make your point.

Wait, which one is the episode where Silver Pair Vs Golden Pai? I don't remember that. And I've seen all 178!

Thus I haven't finished your manifesto as I don't like spoilers >_<

Please tell me which episode it is so I can go watch it!

As a fan of this pairing, I absolutly LOVED your essay *O* although you don't put the part when Shishido cut his precious hair uwu~~. I agree with you in EVERYTHING , specially in these parts:

//So, if someone cold and distant bothers to sacrifice his nights, his effort and his position on the team, just for Shishido, doesn't that mean that Shishido definitely means something special to him? //

Yup, like you said above, Ohtori seems to be an stand-offish and cold guy, even he's very polite. He must cares very much about Shishido to help him that much...(A friend told me that manga!Choutaro says Atobe & co are his senpais, but nothing more...)

//Although it's possible that Shishido only cares about their tennis, but I like to think of it that Shishido cares about Ohtori as well, tries to make the training easier and supports him the best he can.//

I'm convinced Shishido not only cares about tennis. For the look in his eyes, is pretty obvious he loves Choutaro cares deeply about his kouhai :)

//And when Ohtori had to block his face with his racket from a return from Kawamura, Shishido literally yelled "CHOUTAROU!", like in all those movies when the girl falls down the ravine into the depths, and the guy is like... "NOoooOOooOO!" xD//

That made me LAUGH SO HARD XDDDDDDDDDDD. You're totally right <33333333

//and everyone says that "No one is really canon, because this is an animanga about MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS playing Tennis", but really...//

I hate when people say things like that...Getbackers and Oofuri are shounen manga too and nobody can deny the gayness...
And yes, the bromides are completely gay ^__^

I really enjoyed this manifesto - especially, I must add, the pictures. They're so pretty together ^.^

I was wondering, do you have any recs for this pairing? The longer the better, as I love epics. Thank you, in advance, if you have a few for me ^.^

Oh God. This is only helping to push Inukai and Golden Pair and Oshitari x Atobe and Dabibane and every other pair I like down one slot lower to make Silver Pair my straight-up, bona fide PoT OTP. I love Shishido and Ohtori and together they're just so perfect and married and *flails* it's so...gah.

You did a really good job highlighting them in this man fiesta uh, manifesto :3 and bless you for that collection of art. This whole thing - the writing and the pictures and commentary - just gave me a big stupid grin on my face. Thank you. <3

I LOVE all those pictures at the end. Could you reupload the ZIP of the fanart though (to Mediafire, maybe?) The sendspace appears to have expired.
