Oh, I absolutely agree; my apologies if I made it sound otherwise. Willow's more...carnally inclined with Xander in BBB and s3, but before that, she's quietly (passive-aggressively?) crushing on him without doing much of anything about it (for all sorts of good reasons, of course).

with Oz taking the lead and Willow, as the less experienced one, going along with his more subdued approach.
That's exactly what I was trying to say, though. Why's Oz willing to do that?

We're neglecting, of course, the Jossian tendency to make sex=bad, friendship=good, and Willow in the early seasons is very, very much the figure for audience identification. So it's possible that her lack of expressed desire - in contrast to both Buffy and Cordy, as well as most of the male characters except for Giles (*spits at Marti for calling Oz a villain in B&tB & WAH*) - is part of the writers' Willow Sue phenomenon. She's a good girl who just wants to cuddle and have a boyfriend with cute hair in a cool band.
