I was just thinking about this pairing after reading your essay, and it suddenly hit me that S/D is the non-explosive combo.
Sam/Jack or Jack/Daniel always seem angsty and ever-so-slightly screwed-up. Yeah, they love each other deeply, but it's not exactly gonna be pretty, you know? They've got too many Issues in either permutation.
Whereas Sam/Daniel's pretty quiet and comfortable. They'd still argue and stuff, but the metaphorical equivalent of nuclear weapons wouldn't make any appearances. If that makes any sense...?
And "Singularity" and "Moebius" just about have to be the shippiest eps for this pairing, though I do rather adore Daniel bustling in with the giant bowl of flowers in "In the Line of Duty"...
