Hey ^^ I loved the essay. I'm one of those people who regards pairings like Treize/Zechs as 'practically canon' - all a matter of reading between the lines. My favourite little clue is the fact that Une - who is canonically in love with Treize - is such a bitch to Zechs and more or less anyone associated with him. Jealousy much? And surely Treize has a reason for letting Zechs have so much freedom...
Sorry, where was I? I see you pointed out that most pilot!fans don't like Treize and dear Zechsy much. Personally I'm in the middle; despite being of the opinion that Zechs is the coolest person ever to exist in any fandom, I love Duo (Which has manifested itself in my mind as a strange liking for Zechs/Duo, but that's another story - or, indeed, ship manifest)
I think the reason I like Gundam Wing so much is because the characters are so complicated - there is no absolute good and evil. All of the Gundam pilots go at least a little crazy at some point - Quatre when he pilots Wing Zero, Wufei joining Mariemaia's army, Heero...just being Heero. Trieze and Zechs are fighting for the same thing, but by some trick of fate they end up on opposite sides of a war. Zechs in particular switches allegiance so aften that even he isn't sure what side he's on by the end. Trieze's death never fails to bring tears to my eyes, probably because of his last words.
Anything I've missed out? No, I don't think so. Great fic, keep up the good work.
