I don't see why a relationship between Zechs and Noin and Treize and Une disproves or can be considered an argument against 13x6x13. A lot of people are bisexual, a lot of gay men and women get married and have children (especially when they can't show they're gay - I think that was half the point of Brokeback Mountain *g*). And, in the end, especially with these GW characters where we don't really see much in terms of explicitely shown relationships, it becomes a subjective matter with whom they actually have the affair. Again, for GW, I think it's possible to construct multiple, both het and gay pairings that can fuction well (as long as the viewer/reader wants to see them).

As I had written in that essay, if they had been lovers, it would have been before the series. What we see in the series (if they had been lovers) is an established relationship that is rapidly going down the drain because both Zechs and Treize are determined workaholics pushing for different agendas.

I still think that it is significant that Treize's last words are for Zechs. Ever since GW, I have watched some other anime as well, and there seems to be a formula in saying goodbye: first your enemies (if you have any, and especially if they end up killing you), then your friends, and finally your own, special person (=lover/soulmate/etc). If you have the chance to say goodbye to your friends, you do it before the very end and save your last words for your lover. Treize's death in GW fits with that very well.

But, basically, what I'm trying to say, is that with these two, if you want to go het, you can. The same way that if you want to go slash, you also can. And if I sound too apologetic, well, in the end, the essay was about Zechs and Treize as a couple, not about Zechs and Noin :) I agree that there are evidence for Zechs and Noin being in a relationship (though, personally, I think it's one-sided, and not just because I like slash *G*: Zechs is very ... asexual in GW. If he cares about a relationship with someone else in any way, it is for the relationship with his sister (though how he shows he cares is another matter), and then with Heero, whom he respects and regards so highly as to have a low esteem attack first and then to try to become even better. The rest of his life is about revenge). I agree that Treize is a ladies' man (after all, he had his affair with Leia Barton within 3 days! that's fast!!!), but again, with Une... I'm not so sure if it's wise for any man (or woman) in such a position of authority to have an affair with an immediate subordinate and Treize always seemed very clever and far-seeing. Also, Une as Treize's aide is very cool and almost prudish when Treize teases her a couple of times. Treize, from his side, seems very careful not to cross the boundaries Une has because of the respect he has for her. I agree that there is a great degree of emotional manipulation going on, but the evidence for physical manipulation are not there, in my opinion. Which, in the end, is what this post was all about: an opinion.
