Yeah. I do understand that, and sometimes have a bit of missgivings about it my own self (both for Kaylee and for myself in RL... but that's another story). Which is why I, yet again, bemoan the fact that we didn't get to see more. Because I'm next to certain that by season two that issue would have been dealt with.
And I also bemoan the gap between Serenity and The Train Job. I want to see Simon tending to Kaylee's stomach wound;) Because then Kaylee might have seen focussed Doctor Simon. (Whom I love - when he takes charge, oh my *guh*) Though I wonder if Doctor!Simon might intimidate Kaylee... make her think, yet again, that she's not good enough for him. Which would cause some more problems. I'd like to see them explore that, so the characters can grow, preferably together. What can I say, I'm an optimist;)
But the thing I like about Simon/Kaylee is Simon doesn't have to be the doctor for her. He doens't have to be the dutiful son. Or the best big brotehr in the world. He can just be Simon -- or start figuring out who Simon is. And I think Kaylee can give him some of the freedom to do that.
And sorry for all this babble at you...
