The tension between shippers pre-HBP has been wearing me down lately, so I'm particularly grateful that you chose today to make a comment.
I am very mad at myself for feeling this way, but I can't help but wonder whether, if Harry were given the Third Task to do over again at the end of OotP (disregarding Sirius' death), would Hermione appear be his wheezy instead of Ron?

Well... I would think so, but I'm horribly biased, so I'm afraid my opinion doesn't count for much. Although I will say, whether or not there's ever any H/Hr in the series, Hermione certainly means more to Harry than he's aware of on a conscious level.
