Well. Forgive me if I am repeating anyone else's sentiments, but I don't really have the patience to go through all the comments.
I just wanted to say that, as a staunch anti-H/Hr person, I was impressed by this essay. That doesn't mean my mind was changed, because I think a lot of these things may have to do with JKR toying with us, but you made some good points. My favorite was that scene towards the end of OotP, where Harry and Hermione are arguing over whether to go rescue Sirius, and the argument is pretty much entirely in the hands of Harry and Hermione. As soon as I can I plan on rereading that scene, because I think you've analysed it beautifully in the context of H/Hr.
Same thing, actually, with the scene where Hermione goes down in the DoM. I am very mad at myself for feeling this way, but I can't help but wonder whether, if Harry were given the Third Task to do over again at the end of OotP (disregarding Sirius' death), would Hermione appear be his wheezy instead of Ron?
