And I think that Greg might be a tad more comfortable appearing vulnerable, even in front of those people he trusts but doesn't wish to lose face with, but not as willing to jump into the fray for just anyone simply because they need it, like our friend Mr Stokes would.
I'm not sure I agree with this. Oh, Greg doesn't have Nick's "white knight" tendencies for sure, but he's really not comfortable appearing vulnerable. I'm thinking specifically of Inside the Box (Season 3 finale) here, since I saw it yesterday; Greg tries to pretend that his hands aren't shaking to the point of denying it to Grissom's face. It's not that his normal brashness is hiding insecurity, or at least not much, but this was something important that could have affected his job and he went straight into denial with it. Much like Grissom did with his hearing, and I could have slapped the man for telling Greg that it would just go away. That strategy worked so well for him after all.
Of course the writers promptly dropped the ball with this in the new season, but there you go. Watching Greg develop coping strategies could have been interested, but no, everything just magically worked itself out in the off-season.
(PS: sorry for not contributing earlier Caroline, but I don't actually watch ship_manifesto as such. Also you said everything :-)
