Eh, that's the way it goes in fandom. It just sucks because I was really hoping that people who love the ship would want to talk about the reasons why they love the ship while this post was fresh and people would see it on their friends list and maybe stop to rethink their preconceived notions about Nick and Greg. But you know how best-laid plans go.
As for your question about the balance of their courtship, I would argue that there are as many looks on Nick's side as there are on Greg's. Nick's the one who does most of the touching and leaning into personal space, and there are also moments like this one (http://www.nickandgreg.com/s2_08.jpg) where he's looking in on Greg when Greg isn't even aware that he's there.
It's definitely a balanced relationship, at least the way I read it. I think the difference comes in with the fact that Nick's more apt to follow the rules and therefore would be more reticent to get involved with a coworker, particularly a male one, for fear of what would happen if/when anyone at work found out. Plus, he's an ex-cop and there's a lot of stigma associated with that in the U.S. But I've covered all that in my fic so I'm telling you stuff you already know.
As for the bias of the essay, that was the point, at least as I understood it. The questions given were really geared toward a personal approach to the pairing, explaining what they mean to you specifically and why you fell in love with them/believe in them. So it couldn't be unbiased, but I think that's true when discussing any ship/fandom allegiance.
