He's damaged, seriously, from his marriage, and the fallout results in his ungraceful and spectacularly uncomfortable return to the dating world.
I love that line. It's both touching and funny.
Overall, you did a great job with this, Scrunchy. You set out, in a simple and straightforward manner, precisely why so many of us slash Dan/Casey. It's easy to follow, it's charming and I love the use of quotes through it.
The only thing I'd point out is that I think Casey was offered both Late Night and Lone Star Sports at the same time, because Dan mentions that Casey was weird during their first show (and accuses him of being bitter that he missed Conan's show and had to do a small sports show instead). And you didn't mention that Dan has a sister, but since it's one throwaway line, it's not a biggie.
It's the hundred little looks and gestures throughout the series, wielded by the extremely talented Charles and Krause, that give Dan and Casey such depth and emotion.
Exactly! It's those tiny things that make it work so well as a series and make the characters so darn intriguing.
However, zebra363 was right. You totally should have mentioned "12 Latin Phrases" (otherwise known as the one fic that made me support the het *g*). That's a classic.
