I love this, and this pairing. Just the fact that an entire issue was dedicated to Nate and Wade taking a vacation together only to angstfully reveal their deepest darkest secrets of shame to each other makes it really hard to deny this pairing. Heh.
I mean, even the canon love interests aren't a real obstacle since Deadpool tends to point out his scars as making it impossible to get close to anyone (when he's being more serious that is, and Siryn has moved on). That and when Cable got back together with Domino it felt... odd. That's part my bias and part the characters' reactions. Irene hated Domino, and even Deadpool seemed to severely dislike them hooking up again (granted, it could be written off as a friend not wanting Nate to get hurt again).
Plus, they do need each other. When I read one without the other now, I miss them together. Cable needs someone to bring out his sense of humor and humanity (and highlight his craziness). Deadpool's ultimate woobie moments of all woobie moments tend to come from not being able to control himself or find any point to his life - something which Cable gave him. ADDITIONALLY they also connected with each other since they both understand what it's like to be limited by something eating them alive. Hee.
Ok, I'll stop babbling now. Excellent essay. You hit all the major points and those recommendations are some of my favorites too! Awesome job. :D
