I've heard those rumours, but I'm pretty sure they're false - more like a fan explanation of the similar hair. I've never seen any interviews to supplmenet that theory.
Yeah, to be honest, I can't remember exactly where I saw it first. It might be false. But it doesn't really affect anything, so I'm okay with that.
I'd settle for some VII fanfiction that isn't all male centric before I start complaining about the canon... no one writes about the girls unless it's for shipping.
I wouldn't say that there's nothing. I certainly remember reading good genfic about at least Tifa and Aeris. You're right, however, that there's probably more good genfic about the males than about the females. Of course, there's very little genfic to begin with, so...
