There isn't anything convoluted about believing Griffith had found a tool and became obsessed with it.

I never once thought of Griffith as gay. He was obsessive, and his dream was the only thing in his field of view. When he saw Guts fighting Bazuso he simply found a better tool than any member of the Hawks, and he wanted him so that he could ascend the ladder much quicker.

No, I don't believe he was bullshitting with Charlotte at the fountain. I believe Griffith honestly couldn't consider any member of the Hawks a true friend, because none were his equal. The one man that was even close didn't even have a dream, and was simply following Griffith's orders, and when Guts beat Griffith in the duel Griffith became aware that he was no longer in control, and his once prized tool now had a dream, a desire, and had cut ties.

This is what caused Griffith's downward spiral. He became frantic and lost sight of his plans, and future goals. Because his tool was now gone he had lost confidence. I believe this is why he went to Charlotte and slept with her. He was afraid that his plans would become skewed and thus instead of working his way to the end result he just jumped the rest of the gap, and it fucked up everything. That is when I believe Guts made Griffith forget his dream. He lost sight of his plans and went for the end result.

Another thing. I don't think he was thinking of railing Guts when he was raping Casca. I'm guessing that's what you meant. If you think this then I have to say you didn't get the point of the rape. Casca was stilla tool of Griffith's and her final purpose was to destroy Guts. Griffith used her to try and shatter the connection her and Guts had. They both were to die...but Griffith just wanted to add insult to injury and make Guts suffer even more than simply watching as all this comrades where slaughtered by Apostles.

The sexual proposition in the naked bath scene is a joke, right? You're head's pretty far down the gutter if you believe that. Showering naked with another man doesn't mean shit. I live in a dorm where the showers are communal. There are two shower heads in one room, and no curtains. You shower with other dudes. It is not uncommon for guys to walk up and down the halls trying to find someone to shower with them for the soul fact that its boring to shower by one's self. The company is nice and it can create a strong bond when two men have seen each other at their most vulnerable. It puts everyone on an even playing field. Perhaps Griffith was simply trying to increase Gut's trust? Especially since guts never became unclothed Guts was the more secure one, while Griffith was left to bear all.

Another extremely important note is that it is not fate that controls the world of berserk, it is CAUSALITY. They are two different things, albeit similar, they are different. One is in Berserk, and the other isn't. End of story.

Also, don't assume its cannon until it becomes cannon.
