I said it before, and I certainly don't mind saying it again--this is absolutely amazing. I adore how you managed to touch on the important aspects of their relationship without wandering into the second anime series (which you know I love, but for this essay, not doing so was a brilliant idea and pulled off very well).
I also love how you address what is probably my favorite scene--when Sanzo says only Goku can call his name carelessly. And you added a new level of meaning to it for me. While I understood only Goku was permitted to call him "so carelessly," I wasn't thinking of the Japanese suffixes. Bringing this to light -- and considering how so many people address Sanzo as "Sanzo-sama" -- just added a whole new light on the concept. It makes me smile.
Having you write such a fantastic essay also makes me proud to be a Sanzo/Goku supporter. And that pride is rare, especially as of late. Thank you for giving us "immature" fans a good name.
