Lol, I know this was posted ages ago, but I still had to comment anyway XD
I just finished the game the other day, but have been shipping Balthier/Ashe ever since I got to the scene on the Phon Coast. I gotta say thank you so much for writing this manifesto, it puts all the shippable points of this couple in one place so that us fans of the couple can just sit back and be all 'yeah, that's why they're canon.' Also, very grateful to you for including stuff from the original Japanese game (stuff I wouldn't otherwise have known about), I think the pairing is made much more obvious than in the English version (makes you realise that some stuff really is lost in translation...I'd totally play subbed versions of Square Enix games if I could).
The reason I never considered the fact that Balthier/Fran could be canon is that well...isn't she supposed to be older than she looks? I read in wiki that she left the wood 50 years prior to the start of the game and she must have been living there for some time before that so however old she is she's at least twice Balthier's age.
Aaaanyways, much love for including that picture of Balthier and Ashe too (seriously, why make official art with his arm slung about her waist if they aren't a couple? XD), this manifesto was a great read :D
