A very good read, indeed. :D However, the judge you meed in the Dreadnought Leviathan is Judge Ghis, as Judge Bergan is the one you encounter in Mt. Bur Omisace after completing the Stillshrine of Miriam. Although both of them are big buttheads, they are still two different buttheads nonetheless. :D
Also, the thing about the image at the ending credits with the baby... If you pay attention to the costume that the man has, you'll realize it's the same collar and vest as what Cidolfus wears in the game, much more so than what Balthier wears. There is even the sort of frilly looking part of the collar of the shirt he wears underneath. There is also the difference between the shapes of the faces (like you mentioned, the nose is one of them). Like you said, it would also conflict with the apparent theme of pictures of the character's past, like the youthful Princess Ashe, or Fran and her sisters in the Wood.
I adore Fran, and I also enjoy the BalxFran pairing. However, I also love the BalxAshe pairing too, and hate it when people are act like if you worship another pairing, then there's no way to support theirs. :/ Thank you very much for being so level headed, thorough, and mature. :D
Although personally? I garnered more evidence from my playthrough in the game for a BalxAshe pairing than BalxFran. Not to say BalxFran isn't possible, but I saw it as BalxAshe in my playthrough.
