Great manifesto! To the point and very thorough. I agree that the canon evidence for the 'ship is unmistakeable (especially the Phon Coast scene and everything you mention from the ending), and it's interesting to know that the Japanese script supports the pairing even more strongly.
I'm surprised that people think that the man holding the baby in the end credits could be Balthier; I recognized him as Cid right away. Balthier and his father look a bit alike, but not *that* much. Good point, too, about all the other images from the credits being younger versions of the characters, not older.
