*laugh* The general reaction to this pairing does seem to be some combination of "no" and flailing, yes. I live to be contrary. :P
One of the problems I had with writing this was exactly like you said. To me, Subaru and Arashi are a lot alike in many ways, but it's true that they are never pictured togheter... obviously because CLAMP is afraid that otherwise we'd catch on that Arashi copies whatever Subaru does. :P "Hm? I should now turn evil and join the DoE? Okay!"
I am in fact a die-hard S/A fangirl, actually. I love them to death (OR NOT DEATH, you hear me, Sorata?). But what I like about Subaru/Arashi is that, well, both of them are basically screwed over when it comes to love, so... >D They should clearly be miserable together.
In all seriousness, I'm glad you liked the essay. ^^ And I'm glad that your reaction wasn't to throw a table at me for writing it. :P
