Interesting isn't it that Xander has NOT been with his female counterpart ... an ordinary girl who isn't particularly "special" ... not a demon, witch, seeress, slayer, etc. who might amplify or solidify his anti-vampire views.
Hasn't he? Cordy wasn't a seeress until long after she left for LA. And I think that's where Xander's psychology comes in. In "Some Assembly Required", Cordy is essentially giving him the "my hero" fantasy and he's totally oblivious. It's only later, in "What's My Line", when Cordy shows herself as strong and the verbal combat her and Xander is about to become blows do they kiss. It's cute and witty, but you take the love out and you get Tony and Jessica (except they wimped out and made Jessica silent in "Hell's Bells", I suspect to further support the guys suck aspects of S6). He doesn't want ordinary. (At least early on. He seemed willing to give it a shot in "Beneath You".) Notice also that Kendra never set off his slaydar. She was taught by her Watcher to stay away from boys, so she never showed the self-confidence that's Xander's cast-iron kink. Or that's what I take it to be.
