Poll for Part V reopened

Our latest poll has been re-opened. Sorry about the mix-up! It will remain open until 6 AM EST tomorrow to give those who missed out time to get their vote in.

We will be taking a short break once that poll has closed to sort out the votes from the last three polls. Socks socks everywhere! What turns out to be sock votes will be discarded and we'll announce our very first champions once we have a good handle on what to count and what not to count.

I'm just curious as to how you decide what a sock account is? Because while I am not doubting your statement that sock accounts were used (seems like something that would happen), I'd like to know how you're making that decision.

Not hard to tell, when some of them have as obvious names as rockysockme, unfunfunfzutara, isocksummore, yeswecanbtches and hiothersockers. :P Also, I'm guessing accounts created on the day of the poll are prime candidates.

Yeah, I'm sure some of them are very obvious, like the ones you pointed out. What I was more concerned about is situations like the one commented below, and how in my main fandom at least (and I'm sure others are the same), there are a lot of fans who only joined lj to look at locked posts and occasionally comment, so have no posts in their own and little to no content in their profiles/interests. Also, there are people whose only journal is their rp journal. And yeah, that's a couple of the reasons I asked for clarifications. Without that, it seems a bit of a slippery slope.

Not a mod, but if I were, I'd use journal creation date as the major telltale. Most of the very obvious socks were created 7-13-09. Even an empty, keep-up-with-friends journal should have an older creation date than the day they voted in the poll.

Well my concern is that they'll be looking to eliminate votes caused by people who voted with their regular journals, then went back and voted with their like 20 RP accounts or something.

Again, not a mod, but that might be easy to spot, too; look for a large block of votes for the same pairing, check the userinfo to see if they're all RP accounts belonging to the same person. Doesn't help with people smart enough to space their RP-account votes out over several hours, but it would also spare most cases of "accidentally voted with RP journal instead of main" and "only have an RP journal".

Checking for sock accounts would be a good idea. In one of the comms I frequent there is this (http://community.livejournal.com/capslock_ulori/30376.html?nc=17) going on. I hope those who cheated by voting multiple times can fess up the names of their other accounts.

Um, yes. Fans of a ship "frequent" places of their ship, don't they? Apologies if my use of terminology confused people. I've ever had problems with others understanding me whenever I used the term.

And honestly I would have posted any evidence of cheating from other people from other comms if I had seen similar comments in other places. Why everyone is going crazy and accusing me of being a butt hurt shipper from an opposing ship is beyond me. :\ I just don't like unfairness, and as this post was about sock accounts I thought I could help out.

I understood you, I just find it odd that if you're familiar with the capslock community you'd think that was all super yelling rage instead of goofing around.

I think the reason people are reacting so much is cause you keep pushing it just a bit too far, is all. The first comment got a "LOL" but also one pretty straightforward reasonable reply, then you went and called them a hypocrite. That seems more like making things personal and accusatory than just trying to help out. Then you've even got screencaps that you prepared beforehand just in case, even your "wow, chill" seems like you're being obtuse on purpose.

What I'd honestly suggest is sending a private message to the moderators involved next time you want to help out or complain about unfairness. Because if you're NOT trying to stir up wank, the way you keep at it in these public posts is really giving the wrong impression and provoking people instead.

Guys, these polls aren't ~srs bsns~, but they are supposed to be fun. Don't contribute to all that negative stuff (like using sockpuppets/multiple accounts to cheat, trying to get other communities to vote against pairings, starting wank, and so on).
