Pride, please note that your links that lead to Touka Koukan don't work. You may have to suck it up and link to SS instead. :)

I might have something to contribute here.

Myths and Misconceptions about Elricest:

Ed and Al are brothers! Brothers NEVER have sexual relations.

Actually, in the real world, this is not entirely true. From a psychological standpoint, having sexual desires that fixate on a close and trusted person such as a sibling a a state of development that occurs normally in some growing children. Usually this occurs in early childhood and fades after puberty, as a growing sense of sexual expectation is placed on them from the outside, but it is not unknown for it to persist. Younger siblings, when going through puberty, often look to their older siblings of the same sex for guidance.

While sexual attraction between siblings is usually suppressed by the Westermarcke effect, this is not a magical sex-suppression pill or a universal bylaw. The popular American view of incest is of the pedophilic father and his daughter; although this gets high visibility because of the high cocurrance of child abuse, it is not actually the most common form of incest. The most common incidence of incest is brother/sister; there is less publicity about it, because it does not have such harmful effects.

Incest leads to two-headed babies!

Last I checked, Edward and Alphonse were both male. :) Unless there's some very funky alchemy going on there, this is not really a relevent point to bring up in discussion. It's simply a reflex triggered by the word "incest."

Elricest fans are perverts. They only like the pairing because it's bad.

Well, leaving aside the question of whether or not we're perverts, this is certainly not true. The attractiveness of Elricest as a pairing has everything to do with the characters' compatibility as people, the deep love evident between them, and the strong desire to make them happy after all the shit life has dumped on them.

We may be perverts anyway, but that's certainly not why the pairing is attractive.

Most yaoi pairings, in my experience, have more to do with the attractiveness of the character designs together (that is certainly the appeal of Ed/Roy for me!) than the actual affection between the characters. If you're looking for something that's more based in emotion than on-screen beauty, Elricest definitely has something to offer.

I suppose I can see what you're saying, but I still just like them better platonic.

There's nothing wrong with that. :) As commented above, Elricest is not for everybody. So long as nobody's spamming our communities, or petitioning to have us banned from the internet, Elricesters in general are perfectly content to live and let live.
