Very well said. Here's my random $0.02 then.

Having a sibling is pretty much the longest relationship you'll ever have in your life. Assuming nothing horrible happens, you have a sibling for longer than you have parents and/or a loved someone. The fact it begins so early in your life only makes it stronger. Siblings interact and influence each other as they grow up and there have been many cases of kids being traumatized for life when they were adopted separately from their siblings (note that this also happens with kids who are only half or not siblings at all but have been raised together).

Not all siblings are close, of course. It's especially difficult in bigger family(I'm not overly close to my younger two sisters per example). Siblings also tend to grow apart and gain more independency during teenage, as they make themselves new groups of friends at school. The thing with the Elrics is that they never went through that phase. Instead, the only person they felt was trustworthy enough was each other, leading them to rely even more heavily on their relationship. When teens reach the point where they are interested in sex, they often seek a mate from their friends group, somebody they know and trust enough to experiment with. Edward is quite paranoid, thank you (he doesn't like to trust Roy or rely on the adults). There are few people he would trust with something so personal, and Al might be one of them in the right circumstances. (As an aside, maybe Winry would be close enough to be eligible, but she's not around enough I think.)

You'll notice most people write Al as being the one to take control because Edward is known to like angsting about everything he did (and things he didn't do as well) and he would certainly feel guilty to ask pleasure from a brother who can have none (assuming armor!Al) or that he views as pure (he still insists all the wrongs are his). He'd feel like he was tainting Alphonse I believe. But Al does stand up to Ed sometimes when he's being idiotic, so we may be able to count on him to set things straight.

I admit I am probably so taken by Elricest because I understand the concept of loving a sibling to death. It also leads me to believe the jump to more isn't so wide. Best friends often become lovers and Edward's best friend is certainly Alphonse. Sure, society (at least ours) would frown upon it, but since when does Edward Elric care what people think of him? He'd be far more concerned about Alphonse's feelings. Al, in return, spends his time worrying about his brother.

Alphonse, to us, is a soul bound to an armor. I dare say Edward sees much more than that. If normal modern girls (and boys) can fuck pens, candles, carrots and pink vibrating sticks of latex shaped into male organs, I don't see why Edward would have a problem with metal and leather.

Elricest doesn’t have to be sexual, at least not during the series. It’s not rare either for teens to seek sex from somebody other than the one they are on love with (I’ll point out my only source for this is a paper we were given to read in one of my university class). Either way, the Elrics have a special bond and that’s what I love about it. The smut is a bonus for the dirty fangirl in me.

And I'm mostly rambling...sorry.
