Oz makes the right choices in "Innocence" and "Amends"...but those choices do keep her inexperienced I guess they do. But...would it be better that she shouldn't have been with Oz and had a chance to get experience? It strikes me as odd to lay the responsibility for Willow's lack of sexual experience on Oz's (broad, lovely, lickable) shoulders. He doesn't decide for her, he just takes himself out of the equation when she gets mixed-up and thinks about using sex to solve problems. The kiss at the end of "Phases" is lovely because she *does* stop waiting for someone to make a move and does it herself, as she does later with Xander in s3. Sex and magic get mixy in Sunnydale, and her willingness to act out sexually in order to fix situations that discomfit her might be a prefiguring of her use of magic to the same ends in s6.
she only identifies herself as gay (in "Triangle") after Tara's comment That's in Buffy vs. Dracula, and she also identifies herself as gay to Anya in "Triangle" when they're arguing over their places in Xander's lives: WILLOW: Xander's my best friend! ANYA: Oh, and you don't want anyone else to have him. I know what broke up him and Cordelia, you know. It was you! And your lips! WILLOW: No it was not! Well, yes it was so, but ... that was a long time ago. Do you think I'd do that again? ANYA: Why not? WILLOW: Well, hello, gay now.
And again in "Him" when the four are arguing about who loves the guy the most (credit has to go to beccaelizabeth for raising this point): ANYA His physical presence has a penis! WILLOW I can work around it! ... WILLOW There's a simple answer to this. Just think about who loves him the most. Clearly I do, since I'm willing to look past the whole orientation thing. Don't get me wrong - while I adore Tara and fully believe that Willow's mostly lesbian, I've major issues with Joss's soft-focus womyn-power portrayal of a lesbian relationship *and* I think a bi!Willow would be much more interesting. But her self-identification over three seasons as a lesbian is pretty solid, in both words and deeds. (Oddly, I feel she's at her most sensual *with* Kennedy, but that might just be me getting distracted by tongue-stud thoughts...)
Good lord, I'm swimming in wank now. I should step outside.
