While I agree that was a great what if manifesto, I would argue that Heero/Duo are canon. I feel that the show was set up to have both male and female pairings for all the the gundam pilots including Trieze and Zechs, and that all the women have a counter woman part too and that it is up to each persom to form thier own ideas about the pairs.
