I read somewhere that ME was considering making Xander the gay Scoobie (recall his dealings with Larry) until Seth Green wanted to leave so they made Willow gay instead. Somewhere there is a parallel universe where Willow and Oz stayed together and Xander discovered he was gay and the only possible partner would have been Spike (Giles would be too much of a father figure). Since we can't peek into that universe at least we can get our Spander fill with all the lovely fics here on the web.
