Great essay. You were right on with the bad timing theme IMO; I would probably have chosen that theme as well if I'd been writing this.

You also nailed the reason I like this pairing so much. At first, it was because Willow was so adorably cute with her crush on Xander, and I wanted to see the geek girl get the guy she wanted. But as the show went on, I just got the sense that they were right for each other. And this...

There’s the overwhelming sensation that they are for always, whether as friends or otherwise, and it’s potrayed so honestly and movingly.

...really sums up the reason why. It's the reason I never gave up on W/X, despite all the heavy-handed "gay now" refrences Mutant Enemy stuck in in the last couple of seasons.
