Yep, when I first watched Deka, I had really wished there had been any clear indication that they were more than what was explicitly presented in canon. But now, I actually sort of prefer it the way it is. When a pairing happens in canon, I can either quickly lose interest, or just not bother to explore much. Besides, even back then, I liked to explore the pairing based on what they actually have, the friendship (though way more subtle than the one Hoji has with Ban) and the mutual respect.
Hehe, while admittedly I'm more of a Jason/Trini fan, borrowing someone else's words, I think Billy/Trini was a pairing that sometimes had people almost forgetting that they were actually not a couple (while Hoji and Jasmine were never to that point, I think that the "rationale" behind it fits somewhat... The whole "not together, but makes sense and probably would, if ever given a chance"). And I agree on your points about Billy, he had changed a lot throughout the series, and Trini's leaving has got to have played some part in it. It does leave an interesting topic to be explored, that's for sure.
The RPG sounds interesting, I'll definitely be taking a look.
