My apologies for not reading this sooner than I did; I'm not just saying that because you're so bitter (been there, done that, eaten brick walls because of it) at the lack of response. I've done very little online in the last week or so, except commit that cardinal sin of reading fic (mostly Remus/Sirius, Snape/Sirius Sirius ... oh shit I've been preoccupied with Sirius :D) and being too greedy for the next one to even give feedback most of the time. Not all the time but free time has been so scare so ...

Anyway, I'm glad you reminded me of this again with your latest post because I've read it now.

I've said this before but I really couldn't see it in the beginning. I wanted to. I really did, I'm a slash whore at heart and anything that feeds my kink is better than mainlining (although I admit that's one vice I can only speculate about!)

One of the things that struck me the most about what you said was about how Nick can appear so pretty but boring on the surface. I can't remember the episode now, but it's the one where he takes off his shirt in the locker room and Sara makes a comment about both Warrick and him and I turned to [livejournal.com profile] cloudsurfing and said that he had a damn fine body, a bit like action man and that it didn't do didddly squat for me. Just goes to prove what I firmly believe and that is that you don't really know what someone looks like until you know them. I love Nick's hero complex! I love that he saw in Greg qualities that the others didn't try even try to decipher (well with the possible exception of Catherine but she was mostly self-serving in that I think) Aside from Greg, I love Nick's willingness to appear vulnerable in the quest to Do What's Right. I know he doesn't always do this but I still think it's one of his finer qualities.

He's a perfect foil for Greg on the surface; underneath they aren't that different I don't think, at least not in the 'going an extra mile for those they think are worth it' stakes. And I think that Greg might be a tad more comfortable appearing vulnerable, even in front of those people he trusts but doesn't wish to lose face with, but not as willing to jump into the fray for just anyone simply because they need it, like our friend Mr Stokes would. Ok, shit, I know I'm rambling now but for a while there I didn't exactly forget why I love these two together but didn't really have time to let it out to play, you know?

It was after seeing Scooba Doobie Doo that the thing happened for me; that click that let me know there was a whistle going on and it wasn't only pitched for dogs at all. Nor was it only in black and white, it was in glorious multicolour and I once again turned to [livejournal.com profile] cloudsurfing and said: "I believe".

I love your examples of all the boy touching/looking but it begs the question: Is this a pitch and hit kind of courtship? With Greg as the pursuer who throws meaningful looks whilst Nick happily catches them with a well placed mit?

But friendship; I heartily agree they are friends and in my experience this is the best foundation for a lasting loving relationship for anyone. But here it takes me to happy places because I love the thought of a same sex male relationship with longevity, the possibility of which, is all too often overlooked in all types of media and real life.

It's the kind of canon subtexty relationship that not only lends itself to highly believable fic for those who are so inclined but it, as you yourself have shown in the Subtext Reports, appears so seamless that it is never difficult to fill in the off camera blanks.

I don't know if you could honestly call what you've written an unbiased essay but then you don't cliam it as such and it works for me;it's certainly a wonderful tribute to them and I love how you love them as much as I love them.
