I agree that The Hug really is an *extremely* important moment, which contrasts with the more fanservice-y stuff. I guess I was actually thinking more of the anime/art/etc when I wrote that. There’s just so much touchy-feeliness, I feel like the artists are toying with me sometimes. (Why, Self? Why can’t you just sit back and enjoy the beautiful Llaven filler? >.<)
But er, yeah, before I start babbling incoherently, I just wanted to say I’m glad you did such a great job parsing out the significant details in the manga from the “fluff” so to speak. I hate the stereotype of “dumb yaoi fangirl squeeing at bishies” and reading this essay made me feel really vindicated.^^
