Round 4, Part II

Changing Your Vote: After you vote in a poll, you can change your answers by clicking on the poll number, and then clicking the [ Fill out Poll ] link at the top of the page.

Please feel free to skip over any pairings you're not familiar with or have little interest in.

The following 'ships have already qualified to move on to the final showdown whether they win this round (tourney brackets) or not. This round is to determine the top dog of each individual bracket and maybe get an idea of how the voting will go come finals time. THIS IS FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS! Good Luck.

[Poll #1466114]

Poll will be re-open at 10 AM EST tomorrow and remain open until 10 PM EST Thursday, October 8th.

Well, it was also quite a surprise to many people when America/England beat Ichigo/Rukia back in Round 2 (especially to those who had never heard of Hetalia before). A lot of us America/England fans even thought at first that we'd get curbstomped by Ichigo/Rukia until the votes started pouring in. So it's kind of the same thing here. XD

Really, these polls have surprised me in many other ways too. I was pleasantly surprised to see Haku/Chihiro make it all the way to Round 4, shocked at some popular slash pairings losing to het pairings (which does prove that slash isn't the be-all, end-all for many fans), and bowled over by Carmen/Waldo (is that even a legitimate pairing?) actually winning against two other ships.

And I'm still surprised at how Arnold/Helga made it all the way to here against other ships with definite popularity and support.

A Historical Timeline

[identity profile] swimmuffin.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Through times of war and rebellion, peace and estrangement, as well as later becoming friends and allies, the United Kingdom and the United States previously cemented these deeply rooted links during World War II into what was once known as the "special relationship."" (wiki article)

--------------------------A timeline--------------------------------------------
1607: Jamestown is founded (England finds America)

1754-1763: Seven years war (America is starting to find his own identity...sexual tensions?)

1776: AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE (NOOOO!!!!! ENGLAND!!!! D:) "You used to be so big...."

1783: Treaty of Paris...(England gives up America. For good. *cry*)

1812-1815: War of 1812 (England and France messing with American ships. America's PO'd. England doesn't care. France lies, and England burns down America's capitol. sadface)

1859: Pig War (more arguing between these two over...pigs? niet. land)

1861-1865: American Civil War (England watching from a distance. Trys to help out Confederate Army somewhat, but soon withdraws its efforts with the publishment of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and the Battle of Gettysburg. Baaad England. Trying to split America D<)

---------TROUBLED TIMES----------------

1898: American victory in Spanish-American War (THE BIRTH OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE!!!! TAKE THAT ENGLAND)

1917: AMERICA FORMALLY JOINS WWI AND SAVES THE WORLD. INCLUDING ENGLAND. "Germany...believed that the UK would be decisively weakened before the US could mobilize" >D ehehe~<3

1930's: Great Depression (Anglo-American relationship falters again...france claims America's ass. Russia is OK!!!)

1941: AMERICA JOINS WWII AND ONCE AGAIN SAVES THE WORLD. :D AND THE UK <3

1946: "SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP" TERM IS COINED BY CHURCHILL~<3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

..And the best part? ALL OF THE ABOVE IS ACTUALLY 100% TRUE. with maybe a few exceptions....

USxUK....It's hot, makes the news/current events and school much more interesting, has its own wiki article, is HELLA complex and old, is STILL ONGOING AND WILL BE FOR A LONG LONG TIME, and helped me get a 5 on the APUSH test..need I saw more? :D

[identity profile] swimmuffin.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
out with the old, in with the new!!! :D

USxUK FTW, da?

[identity profile] swimmuffin.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
prob. i mean, hetalia is becoming pretty popular :D, but naruto is like, the DEFINITION of mainstream anime...

ehehe~i sure hope so!! But I talked to a friend of mine who told me the most pop hetalia shipping (in Japan) was UKxJapan? Imma not sure how recent this is, but still... It's prob. b/c the poll was in Japan, and well, Japanese love Japan. >D Still, imma rooting for USxUK the whole way~ :3

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
UK/JP is probably the one with the most amount of fansites, fanarts and such.

But there's a true fact; US/UK was the BL pairing with the biggest amount of booths on last Comiket =D UK/JP also had a lot, but US/UK more than doubled that amount...

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
US/UK has the most amount of fansites by quite a bit and certainly the most doujinshi circles.

But UK/JP is a little bigger on Pixiv, but otherwise, USxUK's got a pretty big lead as far as most popular ship over there.

That being said, it definitely USED to be UK/JP, but that was around last year? USxUK has been the top Hetalia pairing since at least Winter '08 Comiket.

It's canon after all...

the last comiket said usaxuk was the most popular pairing in the whole event... (more popular than dinoxhibari and ukxjapan)

of course... I think ukxjapan used to be the most popular shipping last year... but currently... is much more usaxuk

japan and england were the most popular character in a poll in japan... but we did another in this side of they world and they were manly america and england :D

[identity profile] eriu11.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean about Ichigo/Rukia. They're my OTP and they pretty much are the juggernaut ship of Bleach. I was sure they were just gonna walk through that round. It's funny that the only Bleach pairing that has really stood out in these polls is the Ulquiorra/Orihime ship and until six months ago that was mostly considered pure crack and barely even a real pairing. I guess you just never know with these polls

[identity profile] eriu11.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair point. I was sure Ichigo/Rukia was just gonna sail through this and Hetalia CRUSHED them. So I suppose certain things were to be expected.

Ulquiorra/Orihime has a large fandom...and anyways, sometimes things just don't work. I remember seeing at the IchiRuki community that time an entry asking for people to vote, but the answer was really small. Not to mention that there might have been Ichigo/Orihime shippers who might have voted against IchiRuki...
Bleach shipping wars scare me a little *shudders*

Other fandoms have surprised me as well. On the FMA fandom, Roy/Riza are still going strong. Ed/Winry was defeated a long time ago, and RoyEd (probably the most popular pairing) is losing this round. Sometimes I just don't know what's the people thinking xD

Your points of historical relevance amuses me greatly. X3

[identity profile] infiniteowl.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Come to think of it, is Ichigo/Orihime even among the contending ships? It's a bit odd when one major ship in a fandom is conspiciously absent when there are like seven other ships put up for that fandom. (How can there be all these Avatar: The Last Airbender ships and no Aang/Katara? Unless I missed it or it's coming up in a later round...)

I'm surprised that Roy/Ed is losing so badly too, but I think it might have to do with Haku/Chihiro being the kind of "classic" pairing that pretty much everybody knows and likes, as Haro once said before. I know that I voted for Haku/Chihiro because it was my first ever anime OTP. It'd also explain why so many of the classic Disney pairings are doing exceptionally well and how Simba/Nala is managing to give Zuko/Katara a very tough fight.

No, Ichigo/Orihime isn't among them. And in Hetalia's case, it's hard to believe that Prussia/Hungary made it into the contest and Germany/Italy didn't xD

I agree that the "classic pairing" argument works well for Simba/Nala's case. Still, the Zuko/Katara fandom is a BIG one (as big as Sasuke/Naruto), so it's still surprising for me...

Just watching these two (or watching them flashback about the other) you can cut the sexual tension with a knife.

Honestly, the sex between these two would be so hot it would burn the damn house down.

If any shipping deserves to win, let it be these two sex machines. HELLZYES!

I was still hesitating and eventually, my hand moved to vote for them.

Haha... does this mean chibi!Alfred won't rape Arthur now?!?!?!
