I loved Kirk and Spock and could see the closeness, but since I'd been planning on marrying Spock from the time I was seven, it took me a *very* long time to come around to wanting to read K/S (I saw it...I just didn't think the pairing would work for me).

:D I think a lot of us had that problem. *g* But they're just so meant for each other! I have issues with the movies, but I have to love them just for that. K/S in the series was tantalizing and subtexty, but the movies practically made it text, I think.
