Loved this essay, you pointed out all the things that bothered me with the canon. I have some far-out fanwank that Cordy tried not to think of Angel as a man and that made her blind during S3. Still a noob to their pairing (it's been a couple of months since my first introduction to Buffy/Angel) but I always go for the friends-turned-lovers recipe for my het ships too :)
