Very interesting. While I'm fond of Vimes and I simply adore Vetinari, I'd never really thought of slashing them (well, not until...Is it Nightwatch where we get to see young-Vetinari?). All the same, the format of the original books would be too intimidating to actually write.

4) Vimes’ reference to the “pick-n-mix” nature of Love in The Shades.

I'm struggling to remember that, but I just can't. I had a vague feeling it was more to do with the Shades subtext, that relationships tended to be shortlived and promiscuious, and generally depended on what your lover could do for you money-wise rather than anything else.

On the other hand, I think both Vimes and Vetinari have been shown to get on well with the, ahem, Seamstresses Guild (which includes male "seamstresses" too, since "unnatural acts were only natural") so I don't think there's too much social stigma there. (Or, more correctly, very little *more* social stigma than having either of them sleep with a woman.)
