Great manifesto!
I'd definitely got the impression that Emily was gay or bi, but I thought it was due to the fact that she reminds me a bit of myself;)
J.J., I have to admit, never registered for me until the episode involving the soccer players that were reminiscent of her. No, not the sports aspect; it was the way she reacted to a friend of her aunt's. There was something there as an undertone that made me feel she wasn't close to immediate family. Plus, the way she talked about the desperate desire to leave a small town....
Also, as I am new to the fandom, I had been quite annoyed at not finding Penelope femslash - yes, I know her character seems as hetero as they come, but damnit, I love me some Kirsten! [She's the first out lesbian actress that I've EVER had a crush on!] So I did figure there might be a reason everyone who wrote femslash for the series were writing about Emily & J.J.
Now I just have to find good polyamory fics... my other fandoms are much more open to them. I'm even happy with Crack!fics, even if they seem AU due to the very real dangers to their careers. If the author captures the voice of the characters and keeps it fluffy and very smutty, I'm all over it!
Just wanted to say thanks again for this. I love your very well-researched thesis. I mean that completely as a compliment, since I can talk chapter and verse on why all of my pairings are viable!
