Essentially what happened was that someone from LJ went to a Steph Meyer signing and asked her about it and she confirmed it there. I can't remember whether she said that J/B wasn't going to happen or just implied that it wasn't by saying that Bella was staying with Edward, but either way it was very sad. I think there's a post about it at sortofbeautiful where we all licked our wounds. :(
