Mn... I guess the point is what exactly makes a pairing and if it's possible to ship a pairing for which the manga set only a vague potential.
Subaru loves Seishiro and that's canon. Fuma... well for Fuma there's no one else as special as Kamui. Also canon. Subaru can't have Seishiro. Fuma can looks like who one wishes to see and fulfil wishes. It's canon too.
From here we can move to the hypothesis that Subaru can have Fuma as replacement if he were to wish so.
Yes, there's no canon evidence that support that Subaru had used Fuma as replacement (except the ripping eye thing but that could have been unconscious). However I'll say it's not a completely OOC idea. It's possible and it's IC.
But it wouldn't include romance since Subaru would be using Fuma as replacement and Fuma would do so only to fulfil Subaru's wish.
Of course we can wonder... would Subaru use Fuma? Well, Fuma after Seishiro's death can't look like Seishiro anymore and Subaru is a very correct person. However it's not impossible that he had a moment or more of weakness. So there's a canon possibility.
Can this constitute a pairing? Sometimes canon in other anime/manga had set pairings with ever vagues ties so, yes, for me it can.
Will this ruin the pairing the canon set? I don't think so since it would be only a 'palliative' of the relation a character wants to have and the 'job' of the other.
Is this canon? It's hinted, given as a possibility. CLAMP enjoy offering alternatives to the canon pairing they set. To them the alternatives would never be as good as the canon pairing but they offer them in almost all their manga so...
All this to say I don't think Meffie wanted to destroy the original pairings, just to give it other aspects.
To use her own words: 'Fuuma/Subaru is not a love story; that’s what makes it so good to see. It’s two love stories and how they interact and complement one another; it’s an exploration of Seishirou/Subaru and Fuuma/Kamui with its own special dynamic that only adds to the tragedy and complicated loveliness of what we see in canon.'
Yes, there's who, in order to support this pairing, step all over the canon. There's who write as how Subaru completely forget Seishiro to lose himself in Fuma's arms and viceversa and I HATE this. But that wasn't what this manifesto was about so I don't think that's relevant.
I find extremely odd how I'm defending this since I'm a strong Seishiro/Subaru fan... but truth is that, even if I don't truly like this pairing (I'm too obsessed by SxS) I can't deny it has possibilities.
So, I understand and respect your point of view but I think you're expressing it in the wrong manifesto. This one isn't trying to convert people to Fubaru over SeiSu or FuKa. If it was I would be the first to be saddened by it.
