Wonderful essay! Especially your description of Kurdy, which captured exactly everything I love about him.
I admit that I was from the very beginning (and still am) very obsessed with Markus -at least the way I see it - immediately fell for Jeremiah. Fell, not necessarily in love, it's hard to tell with Markus, but he is fascinated by Jeremiah more than by anyone else, it seems. The Jeremiah/Kurdy aspect of the show revealed itself to me only later, because I was expecting Markus to seduce Jeremiah in the showers anytime, which sadly never happened.
I think that in the J/K relationship, Kurdy's love for Jeremiah is much more obvious than Jeremiah's love for Kurdy. Kurdy loves openly, with all his heart. As you said, he obviously loves women a lot, so I'm not sure if he will ever let his love for Jeremiah turn into something more. But I can easily be convinced that it will, he just needs a push in the right direction. The love is already there, no doubt about that.
Jeremiah on the other hand is very focused on himself and his quest to find his father. I knew in the every beginning that Kurdy was going to get hurt, because he was willing to follow Jeremiah no matter where, but he didn't expect that Jeremiah would leave him behind if that would bring him closer to his goal. Jeremiah really needed a srtong father to take hima nd shake him and make him realite that with Kurdy, he has someone who will do anything for him, if he would pay just a little bit attention to Kurdy's needs.
Maybe their age difference is the reason for that. Kurdy was very young when he lost his parents, he was relying on other people's help from the very beginning. His world is based on that: helping friends and being helped in return.
Jeremiah was old enough to get by himself, and he had to take care of his brother. When his brother died, he had only himself to care for, and so he isn't very sensitive to other people's feelings and needs.
I still haven't seen the whole show, I am at 2x08 at the moment, so I don't know what will happen with the whole Libby thing. I won't say that I don't like her, but I really thought that now that Jeremiah has found his father, he can finally start living his own life, calming down from his anger and see what the people around him feel and do: especially Kurdy.
Unless Markus makes his move first... *g*
